Top N.J. election official taking U.S. Homeland Security post - New Jersey Globe | New Jersey Politics

Assistant New Jersey Secretary of State Lauren Zyriek Enriquez, the highly-respected acting director of the New Jersey  Division of Elections, will depart state government on Friday to take a top post at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Zyriek Enriquez will serve as an election security advisor for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), covering Region 2, which includes New Jersey and New York.

She spent more than six years as the Deputy Bergen County Clerk before joining Gov. Phil Murphy's administration in 2018.

On Zyriek Enriquez's watch, the Department of State completed the 2020 Census, ran a 2020 presidential primary, and general elections conducted almost entirely through vote-by-mail ballots during a global pandemic, and modernized election systems to make them operate more efficiently and securely.

Zyriek Enriquez will begin her new post on Tuesday.
