CANTON — Maxie Lee Stamey, a man with a kind, caring, gentle heart and a man who was blessed with 94 years of a wonderful life, entered into his eternal heavenly home on Sunday, Jan. 27,2019. Mr. Stamey was born June 10, 1924, to the late Mack Stamey and the late Belle Welch Stamey, and was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. He had honorably served his country as a World War II Navy veteran and retired from Champion International with 43 years of dedicated service. Mr. Stamey was a member of the VFW, The American Legion and was honored as being the oldest member of the Canton Moose Lodge. Maxie was a friend to everyone and he certainly will be missed by his buddies at the Midway Garage Liars Club, when they gather to fellowship and discuss every topic “under the sun.” Maxie’s strong allegiance to the Atlanta Braves was well known by his friends and family.
