Surveillance Cameras In Flatbush + Fund For Small Synagogues - Patch.com

Welcome back, Ditmas Park-Flatbush! Let's get this Wednesday started. Here's everything happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny; breezy, milder. High: 45 Low: 43.

Here are the top three stories in Ditmas Park-Flatbush today:

  1. A new map reveals the deep racial disparities behind New York City's surveillance cameras–both private and public–that are disproportionately placed in communities of color. The map, created by Amnesty International, documents a high number of them in Flatbush, but very few in Ditmas Park. (MIT Technology Review)
  2. The UJA Federation of New York announced a $250,000 fund for small synagogues in Brooklyn, with under 200 members in their congregation and little to no staff. The synagogues that will benefit are located in Flatbush, Kensington, Crown Heights, and beyond. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  3. Work is underway to create a business improvement district (BID) in Flatbush's Little Haiti, nearly four years after the idea was initially floated. (Haitian Times)
