Prosecutor General’s Office extends investigation of Sheremet’s murder until June 12 - 112 International |
| Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:24 AM PDT  Pavel Sheremet The pretrial investigation of the murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet is extended for another two months, up to June 12, 2020. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine made such a decision on the request of the police investigators as Hromadske reported. The investigators of the National Police asked to extend the terms of the pretrial investigation until the end of about 20 expert studies and extra investigative actions toward suspects Yana Duhar, Yulia Kuzmenko and Andriy Antonenko. Meanwhile, the lawyers of the suspects stood against this appeal as they are sure in the absence of evidence, which may refute the contentions of the defense and presence of the violations during the composition of the document. Antonenko, Kuzmenko and Duhar refused to pass the polygraph test and some of them refused from psychological and anthropological expert studies. It was noted that it is too early to pass the case to the court without extra investigative actions. Soon, the court should decide on the extension of the restrictive measures for suspects as the terms end in the beginning of April. Earlier, investigators in the case of the murder of reporter Pavlo Sheremet prepared a petition to the Office of Prosecutor General; in it, they ask the authority to prolong the pre-trial investigation for another four months, until June 2020. Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sheremet was killed in Kyiv in the morning of July 20, 2016. His car exploded in the city's downtown. The vehicle belonged to his civilian wife, Editor-in-Chief of Ukrainska Pravda outlet Olena Prytula; she was not in the car at the moment. The Ukrainian police qualified the explosion as intentional homicide.  |
