Jon Jones sends defiant message to detractors over failed drug tests, wants 'DC' win back - Express

Image
The New York native has failed three drugs test during the USADA era, two of which discovered traces of the banned anabolic steroid Turanibol in his system. Jones was sanctioned for his second failed drug test, for which he received a retroactive 15-month suspension. USADA opted not to punish him for his third failure, which was discovered by a test 20 days before his UFC 232 rematch with Alexander Gustafsson , as they deemed it was the reemergence of the remnants of long-term Turanibol metabolites found in his previous positive test. Jones was first found to have the prohibited substance in his system before his UFC 214 grudge match with his bitter rival Daniel Cormier, though it wasn't discovered until a few weeks after he knocked out 'DC'. An independent arbitrator deemed that Jones didn't intentionally take the agent, which has prompted  the 31-year-old to appeal the California State Athletic Commission's decision to overturn his third-round stoppage vi...

Jon Jones says he’ll never fight Daniel Cormier at heavyweight: ‘That’s his zone’ - MMA Fighting

Image
If a third fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is ever going to happen, it appears it will have to be at 205 pounds. Just hours after Cormier relinquished his UFC light heavyweight title in advance of Jones’ return against Alexander Gustafsson on Dec. 29 at UFC 232 , Jones was asked about a potential trilogy match against Cormier on the UFC 232 weigh-in show on FOX Sports 1 . And “Bones” made it clear that the ball is in Cormier’s court to move back down in weight. “It’s up to Daniel Cormier to challenge me to get his belt back,” Jones said Friday. “I heard that he ended up relinquishing his belt, and I think that’s a good look. But at the end of the day, I know most people know that he never was the champion. Hats off to him for being the heavyweight champion of the world, but I’ve been the light heavyweight champion since 2011. That’s just facts. That’s just facts. The belt was given to him. He has not beaten me. So, he can cancel all doubts by challenging me and really...

Montana Supreme Court rejects Hamilton business man’s appeal on child sex conviction - Ravalli Republic

The Montana Supreme Court recently affirmed the conviction of a Hamilton business man for the sexual assault of two girls. Randall Bryce Walker, 48, was sentenced to 100 years in the Montana State Prison after a jury took two hours to find him guilty of four charges following a five-day trial in August 2016. Walker was the former owner of Frontier Auto Plus in Hamilton. He was initially charged of assaulting an 11-year-old girl on Valentine’s Day in 2015 after she confided in a day care worker. During a subsequent investigation, another woman stepped forward to say Walker had sexually assaulted her over a four-year period until she was 12. The 27-year-old woman testified at Walker’s trial. Walker maintained his innocence and found a good deal of support in the community. District Judge Jeffrey Langton sentenced Walker to four 100-year concurrent prison sentences with no time suspended. Walker appealed the conviction to the Montana Supreme Court, arguing that Langton...

Shawnee County Sheriffs Office seeking to hire, retain more emergency dispatchers - The Topeka Capital-Journal

Shawnee County 911 dispatchers are clocking huge amounts of overtime as the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office grapples with being short-staffed in its communications division. The county needs to hire at least 10 more emergency dispatchers — whom the county designates as communications specialists — to alleviate the problem, according to Melanie Bergers, director of the communications division. A reader recently asked #TopCity What? if anything is being done to remedy the problem of overworking 911 dispatchers, who are required to work 72 hours a week. "It's not technically forced 72 hours a week," Bergers said. "Some of them volunteer. A lot of them are willing to work the overtime. However, they are overworked." The division is taking a range of steps to alleviate the problem, from identifying and training new hires to efforts to boost morale and retention. The division has been working with the county's human resources department to spread the word...

Clarksburg, WV, city manager: Clarksburg Police Department hopes to hire six new officers after Jan. 1 - WV News

CLARKSBURG — The Clarksburg Police Department hopes to add half a dozen new officers shortly after the new year, according to City Manager Martin Howe. The members of the Clarksburg Police Civil Service Commission recently met to certify the latest eligibility list, which is the final step required to allow Howe and Police Chief Robbie Hilliard to begin hiring new officers, Howe said. The most recent list included eight potential officers, and the city expects to make employment offers to at least six, Howe said. “Probably beginning Monday, we will begin contacting the applicants to provide them a career offer to join the Clarksburg Police Department,” he said. “We’ll attempt to get a start date for them in mid-January.” The new hires will then undergo several months worth of on-the-job training, called Field Officer Training, before they enter the next available State Police Academy Class in April, Howe said. “Just so we can begin training them, we will bring the...

Report Shows Maryland Police Dept. Didn't Keep Training Records, Hired Officer Who Failed Psych Evaluation - NBC4 Washington

Image
A Maryland police department failed to keep adequate training records on its officers, hired officers who were not recommended, including one who failed a psychological exam, and another with 12 traffic citations who repeatedly failed to show up for court hearings, according to a report obtained by the News4 I-Team. The report, issued by compliance officers for Maryland's Police and Correctional Training Commission, noted more than two dozen deficiencies within the District Heights Police Department after an investigation into its training records and hiring practices. The department is comprised of 10 officers besides the police chief; six are mentioned by name in the report as having deficiencies in their records or the background process. One officer admitted during a polygraph that he had been disqualified from eight other police agencies prior to being hired in District Heights. The report says a psychologist recommended the department not hire the officer, however the off...

10 best "Saturday Night Live" political sketches of 2018 - Salon

Image
Because President Donald Trump regularly attacks "Saturday Night Live," the venerable comedy franchise can't simply be viewed as another pop culture property right now. Whether you love it or hate it, the show is standing up for basic American ideals — particularly those involving First Amendment liberties — every time it ridicules the president and draws attention to the underlying phenomena that led to his rise to power. It is with this sobering reality in mind that, perhaps paradoxically, this list of the best political "Saturday Night Live" sketches of 2018 was compiled. Bear in mind that the criteria for this list only requires a sketch to have been released in the year 2018, which means that it includes part of Season 43 and all of Season 44. Advertisement: 10. St. Petersburg officer arrested on Hillsborough child sex charge - Tampa Bay Times

Image
ST. PETERSBURG — A city police officer faces charges in Hillsborough County of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. St. Petersburg police Officer Iraj Karkevandian, 34, turned himself in Wednesday to face allegations that he had sex last year with a girl who was 17 at the time, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The patrol officer was suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case. An attorney representing Karkevandian said the allegations are false and the officer never met the girl in person. Instead, they met in an online gaming community, said Tampa attorney Mark O’Brien, and Karkevandian didn't realize she was a teenager. Karkevandian made his assessment based on her username and photo icon — a Chevrolet Corvette, the attorney said. "Officer Karkevandian is innocent and we intend to prove it," O'Brien said Thursday in a prepared statement. Karkevandian met the girl on an instant messenger app between 2013 and 2014, the Sheriff...

Will the Polygraph be Replaced by Eye-Scanners? - iHLS - i-HLS - Israel Homeland Security

Image
This post is also available in: עברית ( Hebrew ) Eye-scanners that detect deception appear to hold much promise, and are faster and cheaper than traditional polygraph tests, for example during employee recruitment processes. But this technology also attracts some criticism. It appears that the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been using an eye-scanning device to weed out dishonest potential recruits during the initial application phase. This has been revealed in a recent report by the DHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG), criticizing the agency for the unsuccessful attempt to fulfill president Donald Trump’s January 2017 executive order to hire 7,500 new CBP officers and Border Patrol agents over the next five years. According to the report, Accenture deployed the EyeDetect, a “retinal scanning tool used to discern deception based on eye and face muscle movement” to pre-screen candidates at a hiring expo in August. But the company did not first get the necessary perm...

Preschool teacher arrested for allegedly molesting toddler - KRQE News 13

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A teacher at a local daycare has been arrested after deputies say he molested a 3-year-old girl while on the job, and it was a lie detector test that did him in. Investigators believe he preyed upon the girl during nap time. He denied it at first, but his story changed after he took that polygraph test. The investigation began on Dec. 4 at the Western Heights Learning Center off of Coors and Sage Road. The report states the 3-year-old girl told her siblings that her teacher, Lyric "Taylor" Padilla, put his hands inside of her underwear. Padilla was the assistant teacher of the preschool class.  When police interviewed him about the incident he first denied the allegations, but after a failed lie detector test he admitted to touching the child inappropriately, saying it happened while she was taking a nap. A spokesperson with the Children Youth and Families Department says Padilla did pass a background check, as is required for all day...

Fayette County group rallies for husband of Connellsville native, former Green Beret facing murder charges - Tribune-Review

Image
Updated 3 hours ago Family members from Western Pennsylvania joined President Trump in rallying around a former Green Beret and Afghanistan War veteran who is facing murder charges for killing a suspected Taliban bomb maker in February 2010. The case drew Trump’s attention after Army Maj. Mathew L. Golsteyn’s wife, Julie Ruck Golsteyn, a Fayette County native and 2001 graduate of Connellsville Area High School, appeared Sunday morning on Fox News to plead her husband’s case. Army officials last week notified Golsteyn, a decorated Special Forces officer, that he was being recalled to active duty and faces one charge of murder in the complex case that dates to 2011, when he reportedly confessed to the killing during a polygraph test that was part of a CIA job interview. The Washington Post reported that confession prompted an Army investigation that ended in 2015, when Golsteyn was dropped from the Special Forces and stripped of the Silver Star he’d been awarded for his service in A...
